What time does your day start? This is a question I ask all expectant parents, knowing that their days are about to change once the baby arrives. In this rushing world it’s hard to find rest.
Read Gen 1:5,8, 13, 19, 23,31.
Do you see that the Bible reads “the evening and the morning were the first day” and the second day and the third day, etc.? You may have answered the first question with the time you awake in the morning, or with sunrise, or the time you start your work shift. What would you do differently if your day started this evening before bedtime? One might repack the diaper bag for daycare, prepare lunches or snacks for tomorrow, pick out clothing, or put all to-go items near the door or in the car. There is much better sleep awaiting those who are ready for waking up. Objectively looking at our sleep time is a start.
Did you ever stop to think how many awake hours you have? Evaluating our use of time includes work time, travel time, mealtimes, sleep time and personal hygiene times and down time. Be honest with yourself. Our reality is to live within time constraints: 24 hours in one day.
Have you ever allowed yourself time to sleep until your body wakes you up? For more than three days in a row? Could you? This could give you a truthful measure of how much sleep time you need in your current season of life. Check your calendar: make a plan.
Thank you Father for giving us Jesus and for his faithfulness to us. Thank you for revealing ways in which we may use our time wisely. Let us see our use of time from Your perspective and give us grace to obey when you call.
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matt.11:28-30
Don’t forget to journal.
