"Job’s sons would take turns preparing feasts in their homes, and they would also invite their three sisters to celebrate with them. When these celebrations ended—sometimes after several days—Job would purify his children. He would get up early in the morning and offer a burnt offering for each of them. For Job said to himself, “Perhaps my child ren have sinned and have cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular practice.” Job1:4,5 NLT
Job was a person who made and lived by habits. “I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I look at a virgin?” Job 31:1NLT A personal covenant with himself and God.
Jesus demonstrated habits:
Praying early in the morning. “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.” Mark 1:35NL
Regularly seeking God. “ But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.“
Luke 5:16
Attending synagogue on Sabbath “When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures.” Luke 4:16
Fasting Luke 4:1-13
Bible Reading “When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual.” ”Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them, and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.” Luke 2:42,46,47
Serving others. “ For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
Habits can help you out or hinder you. Examine your habits and rejoice in the ones that benefit you and ask God for help with those that don’t.
Father God, we thank you for the gift of choice. We ask for grace in our daily habits that will bring honor and glory to you.
