20/20 Vision Day 14 - Your Lunchbreak

The idea of a lunch break tends to bring the vision of people standing around a water cooler or sitting with lunch bags at an office kitchen socializing. Temptations like office romances and gossip come to mind.

There is much spoken about food and meals in the Bible, including two lunch breaks with more than 4 thousand men and their families being fed. Food is mentioned many times, often as a sign of God’s provision, comfort, and health. The children of Israel had many very specific food laws intended by God to provide keep them healthy.

The food of a lunch break is not as important as the mindset of the lunch break. The idea of lunch break is to step away from work to be strengthened and refreshed.   If lunch break becomes a place of gossip, complaining, overindulging, or unhealthy practices, these may not produce the refreshing intended.

“If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.  If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”  1 Cor 10:12,13,14NLT

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1Cor 10:31

Although lunch break may be with other employees, it may not always be with the boss. If it is, there are specific rules for those occasions: “While dining with a ruler, pay attention to what is put before you. If you are a big eater, put a knife to your throat;  don’t desire all the delicacies, for he might be trying to trick you.” Pro 23:1-3.

In conclusion, “Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.” Phil 4:5 NLT

Father God, thank you for your provision and protection, for all we eat and drink and for guidelines that keep our bodies, minds and souls in right standing with You.
