“God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Gen 1:27NLT
In Genesis chapter 6 we read that God gave specific instructions to Noah about how to build an ark which would allow 8 people and every kind of animal and bird survive a one-year flood.
Later, in Exodus 25, Moses receives specific instructions for God’s sanctuary, the size and style of wood for the ark, the coverings of paint. We read in Exodus 26-27 specific instructions for the sanctuary, a portable dwelling place for God. This was a 45 foot long, 15-foot-wide tent-like structure with specifics about the outer coverings, and the framework, the curtains, the type of fabrics, and even the specific threads of a structure. This structure would sit within a larger portable structure with its own dimensions and specifics.
Again, we read in 1Kings 6 we read of the specifics which King Solomon used in building the Temple, a place for God’s presence to dwell among men. Each of these structures, the ark, the ark of the covenant, the tabernacle, and the temple required upkeep and maintenance.
In Acts 2, God demonstrated his design to indwell men and women, to house his presence within human beings. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought for a price: therefore, glorify God in your body.” 1 Cor 6:19,20
We live in an information age, where more and more of creation is explored and shared through technology, from the largest planets in the sky to the tiniest human cells.
Even AI recognizes that “the human body is a complex system of roughly 37-100trillion cells, 206 bonds, 600+muscles and 100,000 miles of blood vessels.” Each one of us is a steward of our own human temple. We have a responsibility to care for that temple. Maintenance required.
Challenge: how do you take care of your temple?
Father God, you have given each of us temple, made in your image, both male and female. Give us wisdom in how to care for our bodies daily. Remind us that man looks on the outward appearance, but you look on the heart.
