20/20 Vision Day 9 - Stewardship of Your Home

“God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Gen 1:28NLT

Today we will ask God to help us see our home from his perspective. We want to be good stewards of our home and possessions.

A steward is defined as a steward as “a person who manages another’s property or financial affairs; one who administers anything as the agent of another or others.” www.Dictionary.com

When God created man, he gave gifts and responsibilities to humanity.

“The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it." Gen 2:15 NLT.   Some other versions say: “to work the ground and keep it in order”, “to farm the land and take care of it”, “to cultivate and keep it”, “to care for and maintain it”. This is the responsibility of caring for all that God had given to mankind. God later gave Adam the job of naming the animals. He gave Adam and Eve dominion and authority over the earth.

“In Scripture and theology, a steward is a minister of Christ, whose duty is to dispense the provisions of the gospel, to preach its doctrines and administer its ordinances.” 1828 Websters Dictionary.  Paul speaks of being a good manager  of one’s home as part of the qualifications for overseer: “He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity." 1Tim3:4. This refers to the house and those who live in the house as well.

One critical conversation overheard against America at an overseas airport:  “The picture on the back cover to this magazine is pornographic.”.  It was a homemaking magazine with a women’s lingerie advertisement.

Ask God to help you evaluate books, magazine, and literature in your home including television, technology, phones, and computers.

Father God, we want you to be comfortable in our homes. Show us ways to purge our homes of any ungodly or idolatrous objects.  We love you, Lord.
