What Memories Are You Sharing?

Sometimes in widowhood, it's difficult to look forward, to look beyond what seems to be a multitude of decision-making situations. Many people focus on the past. This is somewhat normal during the first year of widowhood, but could be detrimental if it lasts well beyond that, especially if no purpose can be seen in widowhood.

It is not too late to influence your children and your grandchildren for the gospel of Jesus Christ. As adults, we have lived a full life.  We have enjoyed taking and sharing pictures of our loved ones, our adventures, our peers, our work associates, and nature in general. Before smart phones with smart cameras, we invested much money in having those photos developed.  Let’s finish the task by preserving those memories in a meaningful, fulfilling way. Scrapbooking and journaling are two ways to share the good things of the past.

Here are some things that God’s word says about the importance of passing on memories.

Ps 78:4 “We will not conceal them from their children, but we will tell the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His power and His wondrous works that He has done.”

Ps 102:17,18. He has turned His attention to the prayer of the destitute and has not despised their prayer. This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord:” Imagine being able to influence your great, great ,great grandchildren, should the Lord tarry, with your handwriting, photos or written things.

(A footnote to Ps102:18 was 1 Cor 10:11 - how the Apostle Paul saw OT things written down as useful for those in the future:  “Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.”)
